WAY OF JIU JITSU INSTRUCTOR

Kevin White

Kevin’s competitive sports career began at the age of 5. As a child, most sports came naturally to him. “I loved competing against anything and anyone.” Kevin continued with mostly soccer & wrestling throughout most of his school years.

In 2003, Kevin decided to focus more on building his fitness career and put competitive sports on hold. This sudden change to academia and career building was motivated by his father’s death after a long battle with ALS. “Seeing him suffer for so many years was heart breaking. I knew my focus from that point on was to try and help people with chronic pain.”

Since then, Kevin has worked in fitness industry focusing on developing a program to help people with chronic pain stay active and healthy. He started his company Full Circle Fitness in 2010 and has continued to help people with injuries,  and pain ever since.

Kevin’s passion for Jiu-Jitsu began in 2007 with the help of his good friend and professor Nobu Yagai. At first it started off as just another sports challenge, then he soon found this martial art was different from any other sport he had done before. This sport did not require one to be athletic, bigger, or more skilled. “Everyone who does this art is on a different journey and most arrive at the same destination”.

Most of his white belt and blue belt beginnings were spent doing private lessons with Professor Nobu and competing at local Jiu-jitsu tournaments, which he placed gold in both belt classes. It wasn’t until Kevin reached brown belt level that teaching the art became both a passion and a love for him.

His “pain reduction” approach to fitness is what sets his teaching apart from others in his industry. His knowledge of anatomy, proper body mechanics combined with his practical experience of helping others with chronic pain gives him a unique skill to help Jiu-jitsu practitioners continue to train as they get older. Stiffness, arthritis, and past injuries can deter anyone from starting, or continuing a sport.

The “Jiu” in Jiu-Jitsu” means softness, or gentle. This concept of strength through “gentleness” is what attracted him to this art.  Kevin’s hope is to help bring awareness to everyone how special the art of Jiu-jitsu is. “This art is for everyone.” “No matter your age, background, or athletic level anyone can learn this art.”
